Haiti Mission
About
On January 12, 2010 3:53 pm a 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Port Au Prince Haiti devastating the capital and the surrounding areas. As the dust settled, nearly 200,000 men, women and children were dead and a million more were instantly homeless.
Faith Church St Louis immediately began collecting funds for relief efforts:
- We also rallied to buy medical supplies and set up drop off points at both campuses. Pastor David and Nicole went to a local Walart emptied their shelves of supplies including bandages, pain killers, antiseptics, medications and more.
- We loaded our tractor-trailer and partnered with Hand of Hope to fill a cargo plane from St Louis to Haiti .
- A Faith Church member donated $18,000 in fuel and fees and used his personal jet to transport 2 orthopedic surgeons, 2 nurses, portable x-ray, generator and 800 pounds of medical supplies into Santa Domingo then Haiti.
- We were able to get tents on the ground ready to receive the doctors, meals and bibles for the survivors and 20,000 people were fed because of a 3 truckload convoy with military escort.
- Our contact in the Dominican Republic, used funds provided by Faith Church St Louis to buy out an entire grocery store's supply of food and water.
- Pastor David collaborated with Family Christian Center to develop a plan for housing the Haitian people during the upcoming rainy season.
- Another Faith Church member donated the use of his yacht to deliver supplies to Haiti.
On March 9 Pastor David traveled to Haiti with Oasis Church, Family Christian Center and Peace for Haiti. His heart was broken when he witnessed the thousands of people crying and begging for help. No food, no shoes. He gave out all of the food and dollars that he had. There were over 300 kids grabbing at his legs, they wanted water.
Moving from one feeding area to the next proved to be heartbreaking for Pastor because the fatherless didn't want to let him go. The stench of death is everywhere, and the food is running out - the thought resonating within him is "we've got to do more".
And with your help Faith Church St Louis, we will!
